This is the book hubs and I are using - not sure how good it is,
but it seems to be working fine
Hubs and I started our English classes this week. My mom had a good idea where we keep a chart and commit to studying a certain amount of time by 1 September. If we succeed in studying that many hours - we could consider this schedule for the fall. If we fall short - he's back in classes at the college. We decided on 32 hours by 1 September - that's two hours a day, two days a week. Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7pm until 9pm. It's a big sacrifice for hubs because his FAVORITE novella is on at 8pm so we have to record it.
Our first class wasn't too bad. I stated some rules at the beginning - like he couldn't refuse to do anything. For example, every vocabulary word he has to write down in his notebook and then on notecards. Even if he didn't want to he couldn't argue - he just had to do it. He wouldn't argue with his teacher at school - so he can't argue with me. So far, so good.
The class went well and I think if we stick to it he'll end up learning more than he did in the class. Obviously one-on-one classes are more effective. However, it's a bit of a sacrifice for me too - I can't do anything on Tuesday or Thursday nights. Before, when he went to class, this was a great time for me to get a coffee with a friend or catch up on my blog. Now, I the teacher. And as my fellow blogger friend said - it's gonna take a LOT of patience. Hopefully it works out though! Plus, there's an advantage to being his teacher - I know exactly what he's learning so I can re-enforce the lessons all day long.
Our house sounds like this:
I like grapes. I don't like onions. He likes pizza. She doesn't like cucumbers.
As you can tell - we studied foods and the verb to like.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm actually a decent teacher!
