Movie Night

Hubs and I decided to have a movie night last night.  We figured we have had the house to ourselves this week (my sis is on vacation) and so we should do things we don't normally do - like watch movies.  Normally there are twice as many people in the house and getting TV time can be a problem, especially when one TV is on its last leg and likes to shut off randomly.

Hubs was not really into this idea, he wanted to watch TV downstairs.  I am tired of watching Spanish novelas and insisted on the movie.

Bad idea.

First off, the movie was My Sister's Keeper.  This just happens to be the SADDEST movie on the planet.  Second, the movie's in English and I didn't want to watch it in Spanish so I put on the Spanish subtitles.  Third, I forgot how obnoxious hubs is watching TV.

He's really obnoxious.  It's like you put a movie on or the TV and he wants to have long, drawn out conversation.  It's not just when he doesn't want to watch the movie, like last night.  Nope, I can be watching his novela with him and he just talks and talks and talks.  It doesn't bother me during novela time because I'm not paying attention anyway.  However, I really wanted to see My Sister's Keeper and actually pay attention.  Hubs kept interupting and telling me stories and breaking out in song and just driving me batty.

So, after about ten minutes of movie night I sent him to the basement to watch his novela alone.  He practically jumped out of his seat in excitement and flew downstairs.

Lessons learned:
  1. On movie night, don't watch a super sappy movie that will make you bawl like My Sister's Keeper.
  2. Find an action-packed movie that hubs will actually want to read the subtitles for - and keep in mind that comedies don't translate and Honduran humor is vastly different from American humor.
  3. Make sure that you don't have to pay minute attention to every detail of the movie to understand what's going on because hubs will indefinitely interrupt and want to chat.

Ok - those are my lessons learned for the next time we have movie night.  Tonight we opted for a run instead.  We get to spend time together and we're both too tired and out of breath to say anything!  Tomorrow we're playing cards.  I'm not sure the next time we'll be brave enough for movie night....

  2. Sometimes movie nights can be tough if you are both on different pages. My hubby and I have vastly different tastes in entertainment. We have Wed night date nights (Wed is hump day -- the middle of the week) so when it;s declared to be a movie night (theatre or home) we alternate who picks the film. The rules are that the other person has to watch willingly and politely! So every second film, I actually stay awake! I like that you are trying to find things to do together. Enjoy having the house to yourselves!
