Hubs and I have been married three months. THREE MONTHS!! Ok, so in the scheme of things, that's not very long.
It does feel like we've been married forever though. Seriously. I feel like I've lived with him forever. It's a good feeling.
I feel like the first year of marriage is going to be pretty much all about learning. Learning about each other. And making adjustments.
I think it's a little harder since we come from such different cultural backgrounds. We have a lot to learn about each other. To tell you the truth at times it feels like I have a child, since there are so many things he can't do by himself because he has no idea how America works. I knew it was gonna be like this though, so it's not a shock. And I love him so much that I don't mind taking care of him.
Next week we are starting our English classes. Since we couldn't afford the summer sessions at the college we decided we'd do them ourselves. It's a scary thought - I have a feeling that English classes taught by wives are not the best medicine for the first year of marriage. We'll see. I am an ESL tutor at the library and it's not a problem - but for some reason I am not as patient with hubs. I'm gonna try my best though....
We are off to Vermont tomorrow for a trip to see my parents.
Hubs loves spending time with the family and I LOVE that about him!!
hmmm patience! Lots and lots and lots of patience lol I admit that I could be A LOT more patient with Jeo and his English. I think the first few years I was very patient, but now I guess I am a tad bit mean. For example today I told him "I wish I could hit you with something every time you mess up using he/she" He says since he is in the process to be nicer, but I told him after speaking English every day for the past seven years with me kinda puts him out of the "in the process category" jaja Like I said extreme amounts of patience!!!!
ReplyDeleteOK now that I read over my comment I admit that sounds VERY mean lol I should probably clarify that we have spoken English together for the past seven years, and ONLY English. For some reason every time he tells a story he messes up with the he/she part which confuses the whole story. This has been going on SO long I told him the last resort is to throw things at him when he does it lol Don't know what else to do :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow... I am sooo excited to have found your blog. My boyfriend and I have been together 4 years now and he is from Mexico so I can sympathize with you about the cultural differences.. it's crazy! Any advice or words of wisdom you have to share about the strengths/challenges of a cross cultural relationship would be great! Have a super day and good luck with those english classes. When I was teaching in Mexico I taught english too... it makes you see the language in a whole new, confusing way... English is hard!
