First, I have to confess. Today I didn't dry my hair OR put any makeup on. And last night I was finished all my stuff at 10:03pm but the hubs had already gone to bed and the quiet house was so enticing that I stayed up until 10:45pm reading. Guilty. I was going to at least put makeup on but totally forgot until Evan was already awake and there was no time.
Enter Stitch Fix. In case you haven't heard, Stitch Fix is an online shopping experience. You sign up, answer a bunch of questions about your body type and style, and someone picks out clothes for you and sends them on their way. You get about five items (it can be a mix of tops, bottoms, dresses, and accessories), you try them on, and you keep what you like and mail back what you don't. The items are a bit pricier than I would usually buy (average price is about $60 a piece), but they are all great quality and hopefully won't ruin the first time I wash them. Plus it can be a slow process - I can buy one or two items a month rather than 5 in one shopping trip from the same store. You can also buy your entire Fix and then you get 20% off your entire purchase, but I don't think I'll be spending $200 anytime soon. You never know though - my co-worker loved her entire Fix and bought everything the last time.
So I got my first Fix yesterday in the mail. I was so excited because who doesn't love a package in the mail. I had been warned about the first Fix because everyone I know had been disappointed. They all say that the second Fix is much better. That was pretty much true for me. I wasn't really a fan of any of the things they picked out for me, but I ended up keeping one item since you pay $20 upfront to be styled. This is what I got:
A black and white striped shirt. For some reason it looks cuter in this photo than it did in person. I wasn't a big fan and there was nothing special about it, especially for the price they wanted. It's kind of baggy and long so it has to be tucked in, which kind of annoys me.
This one is a bit hard to see but it was a silky-type shirt with tulips on it. It was cute but close to $70 so it wasn't cute enough for me to buy. It was also baggy and needed to be tucked in (this was a theme - everything was baggy and needed to be tucked in).
This one I really disliked. It was similar to jersey fabric and hung weird. It made me look pregnant, which is never a good look. The back was the worst.
It was this weird pattern that reminded me of a Native American-style mixed with large roses. It was definitely not my style.
This is the one I decided to keep. It's a nice fabric and would work for work and casual. It's not the best color for my winter skin, but I will most likely wear a cardigan over it so it shouldn't matter too much. It also needs to be tucked in, which annoys me, but it doesn't look to bad.
I also got a pair of really cute black pants that fit great and were super comfy. They didn't photograph well so I didn't take a picture. They were $98 though and I felt like that was just too much for my sad budget. The shirt I ended up getting was $48 but with the $20 I already spent it was $28. Not too horrible.
So there you have it. I didn't get any accessories, but I am fine with that. I am excited to return these, make comments, and get my next fix next month. I hear that the more detailed your comments the better your next fix is. I really like how I can slowly increase my wardrobe without going on a spending spree and disliking half of what I bought a week later. I made a Pinterst board with my styles which I hope will help them find the perfect outfits for me.
If you like this idea, feel free to use this link (or any of the links above) to sign up. Just to be transparent, I get $25 if you sign up, so if you'd prefer to not do that, you can always just go to the website and sign up yourself.
What do you think?? Would you enjoy an online styling and shopping service?
I really need new clothes. I'm holding out until it gets warmer and I lose a little extra around my waist though. I know if I buy things now, I'll lose weight and then they won't fit well. I'm wearing my struggle outfits right now. HA! I've been getting shirts from Old Navy for $8 or so. Mostly tank tops and sleeveless things that I can pair with a cardigan and scarf. I'm trying to buy plain things that I can accessories to so it looks different every week. :/
ReplyDeleteKattrina - I love the top you kept. It looks great on you. Kudos for trying to find a solution to your wardrobe maladies. It's hard to get time to shop and I too am growing weary of being seduced by cheap prices and then hating the clothes I end up with. No savings really in the long run.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn! I feel the same way about used clothes - it's not a savings if I never wear the stuff or after I wash them they don't fit. We'll see how this works out!
